The dead armadillo near the dead forest.

Sarah thought this unfortunate armadillo would make a nice handbag.

The dead forest.

This forest once lined the banks of the Rio IbaƱez. Following the huge eruption of Volcano Hudson (VE5) in 1991 and the rapid mobilisation of abundant fluvio-glacial sediment combined with ash fallout, the trees died but remained standing in skeletal form.

Clouds forming on the windward side of a mountain.

This embankment on the side of the road clearly shows a thick layer of ash deposited during the 1991 eruption of Volcan Hudson, which was one of the largest eruptions of the 20th centuary.

The eruption contributed towards global cooling in 1993 & 1994 and realeased enough ozone depleting gasses to have had a significant effect on the thinning of the ozone layer.

More spooky trees.
